The world according to Riff.

A little venting today....I have been having to deal with the stupidist people lately at work....not the staff mind you but the ER patients.....everything from drug seekers, to the "I dont have a job, I don't have insurance, I dont have the money to buy my meds, I havent seen my "regular" MD for this condition lasting over three weeks, but it's an emergency now at three in the morning, but can smoke a three pack a day cigarrette habit, or afford to get pot and or crack, and meth, and are grossly obese(so they are eating plenty).but I cant pay for my insulin.......and they show up at the door damn near dead, and as soon as the immediate crisis is over they start demanding "things"...."Im hungry can you order a tray, I need three pillows....no not flat pillows but fluffy ones, it's cold in here can you can me a warm blanket....oh I dont drink tap water I need bottled chilled water only, can you tell the lady next door to be quiet I am trying to rest and I cant because she is moaning too loud and it"s disturbing me, Why hasn't the doctor controlled my pain, what do you mean you dont have samples.....and the list goes on and on.

As bitter and burned out as I might sound, don't get me wrong, I love my job!...There are times when I feel, its very rewarding.....The times when we have a scared new mother, who is terrified there might be "something" wrong with baby, and freaks out..........for a case of colic..lol....and we treat appropriately and make the baby feel better, and the mom also....and the look on mom or dads face when the child is OK...is rewarding....there are other things too, the adrenalin rush when you have somebody presents to the ER....going "I'm alright but I dont feel right but I'm ok.......and they are cold clammy gray clutching their chest and about to pass out, or collapse right in front of you.....talk about SCRAMBLE SCRAMBLE....(sorry if I wax technical) get a line.....make that two lines, EKG, O2, BP in both arms, draw a rainbow, CBC , SMACK, CARDIACS, LITRE OF NS, PORTABLE CHEST, UA, UDS, GET RESPIRATORY ON STANDBY.....OH ......AND GET THE DOC.....YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAW.....I LOVE IT....(especialy if the patient has a good outcome directly related to the staff doing their job right).....lol .....But back to the matter at hand, We get more wastoids who are in the condition they are in because of being just plain stupid and lazy....they are non-compliant, and continue with the very thing that got them there in the first place....and then show up going "fix me".  We have this whole "clan" that comes through there.....all of them and I mean "all" as being about 30 to 50 of them, are all related, all poor, all either do drugs, did drugs, or about to do drugs, over 80 percent have a criminal record....all of them are on SSI, or medicare /medicade....and most of them havent held a steady job most of their life, most of the adults have criminal records, or are married to the criminal.....every time we see that last name come up we cringe.....oh god....heres so and so again....hmmmm lets see is it abdominal pain, back pain, or headache today, oh suprise its toothache......how creative......you just want to tell them...."Excuse me maam....but the meth, you smoke has a high acid content, and destroys your teeth....heres your penicillin VK and dont come back untill you have seen a dentist....this it the ER we dont do teeth, and pain from bad self inflicted teeth problems is not an emergency".....but we cant say that...oh no....but any how, All you can do is hope natural selection takes them out .....cuz they neeed a serious wake up call.......any how I'm a bit drunk, tired and frustrated.....but such is life.....goood night "yall".....riff
