A word of Gastronomic warning

@ 04:39 PM (7 months, 10 days ago)
I recently discovered a new form of torture.....Habanero stuffed olives.....WOWWEE!....Hot and *olivey*....I bet it would make for a killer sado masochistic martini....especially if you made it dirty. But any how to the warning.....Yall, I can take the heat, I can eat fresh habeneros with only a moderate amount of screaming and crying...lol....and these olives werent all that hot as far as that goes, but damn!!!!!...Something in those boogers sure don't like me....(not talking about the afterburn either)...The first time I tried one is *OH HELL YEAH*...and proceeded to eating about 10 of the large stuffed ones......big mistake.....an hour or so later I went pale, wanted to hurl and poop at the same time, (but nothing happened), and felt like hell for about thirty minutes untill the ole gut settled down.  I tried again a day later, with only about 5 olives this time, with some food...same effect but not as bad. I could eat a whole jar but no no. So if any of you "HOT heads " out there see some and want to try them be carefull.....lol...riff

Pit Bulls.....do we need to regulate them?

@ 04:25 PM (7 months, 10 days ago)
Geeez...in the San Antonio today , a pair of pitbulls attacked a grandmother and killed an infant, a week ago, in a nearby town, another child was a chew toy, and partial meal for another Pit....What the hell is going on?..I used to be of the mindset that pits weren't bad dogs they were just raised that way, by moron owners. The pit is also a "status" symbol for some of your less that reputable types, namely a lot of latino gang bangers types, and similar backgrounds, dang near every "redneck" around here with more cars on blocks than on wheels has a pit or three or four.....Just on  a whim I looked up pit bull attacks in Texas and got about 70,900 hits...it also referred to other states but still.  This problem is on the rise. I had a pit bull boston terrier blue heeler cross once myself...(mutt)..He kinda looked like Petey off the little rascals...and that was the best dang dog......but one day my dad saw him hanging off the brisket of a next door neighbors prize Peidmontesse bull (average 1,800, to 25,000 for a good proven stud)...can you say "HOLY SHIT"...lets just say mack contracted lead poisoning after that and after a calf came up missing a chunk of throat.  Dog attacks are not new, but it just seems to me in the last few years, that pits have been in the news more often......riff

What is the wet stuff falling from the sky......

@ 04:05 PM (7 months, 10 days ago)
South Texas has been in a nasty drought, for a while. But today we had a welcomed surprise...wet stuff, I think they used to call it rain!..I have never been so happy to see even pea sized hail that came along with the rain this morning....In the back of my mind, I was looking to see if there were any Mammatus clouds along with the hail...but no reports of any tornado activity. I may actually have to mow the yard in a few days...first time in a few months. Shame the two stock tanks below the house are still dry as a bone (ponds for you non southern folk)...Used to be full of bass and perch and channel cat, good fishing then....Well cross your fingers, (and pray for those in Fargo having the opposite problem)...riff

Im getting too dang old

@ 08:57 PM (7 months, 13 days ago)
The other night, I decided that my little girl was old enough to start learning to cook....We started out simple, Angel Hair pasta, with a sauteed onion and shrimp marinara sauce....She did just fine, and actually seems to like the idea of learning, instead of viewing it as a duty...I hope she marries a dude that cooks also ...lol...Anyhow it got me to thinking....she is 10 already...geez I'm getting fricken old.....suddenly my back started hurting, my vision blurred, and I started craving prune juice and a recliner..."Hey honey The Andy Griffith show is on after Matlock!"....Then I woke up...phew!....Then I showed  my little riff-let how to flatten a boneless skinless chicken breast whithout scattering chicken bits all over the kitchen, and that was lightly seasoned and dusted in flour and browned in the pan...over all she did pretty good, had to call her back to the kitchen when she got bored with waiting on the pasta to cook, but she IS 10...lol...tommorrow it's "dad can I borrow the car, then next, " dad I want you to meet.__________"!       (huh?)            AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH no no no no no...... GO TO YOUR ROOM!.....denial is such a great tool....he he he he......riff

ACLS course...one day fast track....damn!

@ 06:14 AM (7 months, 14 days ago)
As part of my job credentials that have to be maintained, I have to have a current ACLS card, or I can't work the ER....(Advanced Cardiac Life Support).....It is usually a two day course, but the hospital group that I work for has been cleared to offer an *ahem* abusive fast track one day "ass whooping".  Talk about a lot to digest, new protocols, new rationale behind what you do and why.  The test itself wasn't too bad except for recognizing the different types of cardiac rhythms on a strip....Here is a few for you to look at and go "Riff what the hell is this crap..lol"....,
hint..the last one is a normal rhythm....the others not so good....Anyhow we had a few more to recognize, and some you medicate with one thing and some the other, if you use the wrong thing you could cause bad thing to happen.  For example if the top part of your "ticker" isn't pumping well, and just kinda quivers instead of really pumping into the ventricles, we call that A-fib, or atrial fibrillation.....if somebody has a real fast heart rate due to a-fib related problems, you have to treat it carefully, hopefully with medication, and avoid shocking to reset, the atria, and loose a bunch of blood clots into the system....V-fib on the other hand, you light them suckers up...."CLEAR!"...and push meds.....oh by the way...anybody reading this lame blog should watch for this on TV......(your gonna shake your head on this one)....Have any of "Yall" ever watched a movie or tv show where the patient or hero or victim is on a stretcher and they go "flat line"?....What do they do?...they grab the paddles, slap the gel on them , put them on the chest of the dead person, (often with the shirt or gown still on and in between the paddles and the skin of the patient)..Dramatically hollers CLEAR!...and they shock the sucker. The patient arches his or her back makes a face of agony, and flops back in the bed and the process gets repeated a few times...all the time still flat lined...and them as if by magic, as the give up......blip......."wait we got something"...blip blip...."come on you can do it...blip blip blip blip...blah blah  blah...and everybody hugs and cries and the patient goes what happened and smiles as if they were just taking a nap.....BULLSHIT......#1. If you are flat lined, that means that your heart has used up all it's energy (ATP for you biology types)and can no longer beat, and is most likely going acidotic, and dying.  All the well intentioned electricity in the hoover dam won't do a damn bit of good.  You do chest compressions, push drugs and ventilate them, IF you manage to get them back into some sort of rhythm by doing this....then you can shockem....But anyhow I'm just de-compressing a bit...it was a loooooooong fricken day....up at 0430 then class all day untill 550pm then a nice leisurely 2 hour drive back home.....and yes I did pass...only missed two questions on the test, and passed the mock Mega-code......by the way, if you've ever had to do CPR for just a full two minutes, you will understand how "we" nurses feel after a 30 minute code....phew, talking bout sweatin like a whore on nickel night...lol....riff

HBO "mocumentary" The Right feeling wronged

@ 07:38 PM (7 months, 16 days ago)
Have "yall" seen this piece of Michael Moron esque crap.  It was Nancy the socialist Peloopsi's daughter doing a supposed documentary on "The evil right wingers"....but that was not how she presented it....It was done in such a way that she acted like a "concerned" journalist in pursuit of what the Conservitives fekty about the race for the Presidency.  I kid you not ...there are kooks and wack jobs among every large gathering of people for any reason, regardless of what political affiliation you are...But this she hag did some very clever editing.....It showed a real quick blurb of Sean Hannity, briefly stating his opinion, but focused twice as long on some lady with big floppy boobs , going "WOOO HOOO", for twice as long so it seemed. Everybody wearing some kinda cowboy hat, and every person thumping a bible, and none of them talked like they had much in the way of schooling...a very select bunch, no doubt intended to convey that all conservatives are bitter hateful, white people, and religious fanatics...Somebody pointed out that she was the california sea haggs daughter, and she went ssssssh don't say that do you want to get me lynched?   (AND JUST WHERE WAS ALL THE F-ING OUTRAGE ABOUT  THAT USE OF "LYNCHED"....REMEMBER TIGER WOODS? AND THAT REPORTER USING IT OOOOHHHHH THAT'S RACIST..) but I guess that only applies to a select few. Any how this subject just popped up when I was reading about a scathing movie about Hillarhoid was stopped from release, "because it was really a political ad"......but that fat bastard Michael Moore can release what he wants and that's OK.....current spam tally 31/by 4 unique bloghi users ....Im still here, ya pansey..... .later...Riff

Another generator update...dammit

@ 08:06 AM (7 months, 24 days ago)
Well sh**...To update, I was building hand cranked generator to put in my "go Pack", In case I get deployed to an area without available power, in order to keep lights radios and cell phones going......Wellll apparently, a precision gear motor is not meant to be cranked on from the gear end.  Too much torque and stress induced when you put a load on the output. The inducted resistance was too much for the primary winding gear to handle, and it ate about 12 or teeth off it in short order, during testing.....DAMMMMMMMITTT....live and learn I geuss.......But thats OK, I am getting a survival am/fm/weather radio thats hand cranked, and ac/battery powered, and i will put that sucker in my go pack.......riff

You have got to be Fricken Kiddin me!...A new dumocrat move

@ 08:12 AM (7 months, 25 days ago)

If this doesn't make the hair stand up on the back of your neck or make you want to spit nails......Mind you it's ONLY at "low performing" schools....ATTENTION ATTENTION......ALL YOU PARENTS THAT HAVE KIDS IN GOOD SCHOOLS....TOUGH LUCK....... THIS IS THE DEMOCRAT REWARD FOR EXCELLENCE AND SELF RELIANCE.....YOU GET NOTHING.....the ones that sit on their lazy ass, and don't try...get rewarded by the DEMOCRAT WAY OF THINKING.......only *ahem* dumb republicans try hard for self reliance and independence , when it's soooo easy to crap your pants and then whine because you don't have a nanny to change your diaper, and ask for a hand out....so to speak....riff

Students who earn good grades at bad Texas high schools could earn cash from the state.

Democratic state Rep. Joe Deshotel, of Beaumont, proposed a pilot program to give students at low-performing schools cash for good grades in core subjects.

Under Deshotel's plan, schools rated academically unacceptable would be selected through a lottery to participate in the program. Freshmen at those poor-performing schools could then earn $50 for each A, $35 for each B and $20 for each C in core classes of English, math, science or social studies.

Students would be paid half of their earned money at the end of each grading period and the other half at graduation -- a move undoubtedly designed at boosting the state's graduation rate.

Deshotel said the dropout rate "is unacceptably high in Texas." He adds that if the cash rewards help to lower that rate, the Legislature could look at expanding the program. It remains to be seen if the program ever plans to pay students at higher-performing schools for earning the same grades as their peers in lower-performing schools.

Funding for Deshotel's program would come from the $6 million for education the state is expected to get from President Barack Obama's stimulus package.

Texas is not unique in this idea. Other pay-for-grades programs are in place in Chicago; Baltimore; New York; Tucson, Ariz.; and Washington, D.C.

So in other words....Because Gov Perry has refused to accept the porkulus bill money, the Democraps  are making an appeal "for the children"..*big sigh*........How bout (hold on dems...this could be a shock)....how about cutting the lazy people gravy train, and diverting that money to college funding, and maybe even after school programs to help out the areas that need it...an after school tutoring business?....and that way, the kids that actually want to do better have more resources to utilize......and maybe succeed......and as for the ones that wont attend and don't try....TOUGH......SEE YOU IN THE NEXT EPISODE OF COPS GETTING TAZED AND CUFFED its called the results of your bad decisions...once you get old enough to read, the information is out there , you have no real excuse to be out running the streets at midnight getting into trouble....Blame only yourself...or your loving parents.....(and yes there are always some extinuating cases, but the majority have no real excuse)...riff

Immigrant who shot HPD officer was in U.S. illegally

Wilfido Joel Alfaro, 29, was fatally shot last week during drug raid

By SUSAN CARROLL and RENEE C. LEE Copyright 2009 Houston Chronicle (well at least I give credit when I cut and paste lol)

Houston police identified the suspect in a shooting last week that critically injured a police officer as an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, saying federal immigration officials missed multiple opportunities to deport him.

On Tuesday, Mayor Bill White said the disclosure about the immigration status of Wilfido Joel Alfaro, who was fatally shot by officers executing a drug search warrant Thursday night, highlights the federal government’s failure to identify and deport illegal immigrants convicted of crimes. Officer Richard Salter, shot in the face during the raid, in southeast Houston remains at a local hospital.

White said the federal government has “let us down.”

“As a local law enforcement agency, under law, we can’t deport people,” White said. “That is the job of the federal government, and we’re calling on the federal government to do their job.” (unless you use 287-G...duhhh)

White said that after the shooting, information about Alfaro’s immigration status “was piecemeal and sometimes incomplete and inconsistent.”

White said immigration officials told him that Alfaro was at one time a legal permanent resident.

Alfaro had been arrested five times for possession or delivery of drugs — including three times after an immigration judge granted him “voluntary departure” in March 2001. At that point he lost his legal residency. Voluntary departure allows illegal immigrants to leave the country on their own terms, rather than be formally deported.

People granted voluntary departure benefit from not having a prior deportation on their record if they later apply for legal status. It also benefits the taxpayer by saving the cost of formal deportation proceedings, said Michael Keegan, a Homeland Security spokesman.

Keegan confirmed that Alfaro left the country after serving time on a felony drug charge, saying an immigration agent saw him board a plane to El Salvador in March 2001. Alfaro was arrested again in 2002 in Pearland, and again in 2003 on a drug charge in Angleton, authorities said.

Keegan said immigration officials received no queries from local law enforcement about Alfaro after 2001.

White said he believes illegal immigrants convicted of serious crimes should be deported immediately after they have been released from jail. He has talked to and written a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano outlining his concerns and recommendations for reforms, he said.

Keegan said Napolitano “fully appreciates Mayor White’s frustration,” adding that she has made identifying and removing criminal illegal immigrants a top priority.

Houston police and immigration officials pledged to improve cooperation after the murder of HPD Officer Rodney Johnson, who was killed in 2006 by a previously deported felon. After Johnson’s death, HPD offered Immigration and Customs Enforcement access to the city jails and started to refer previously deported felons and suspects with immigration warrants identified during fingerprint checks to ICE.

Critical of federal effort

Since October 2006, the Houston Police Department has referred 420 suspected illegal immigrants to federal officials, HPD officials said.

White said on Tuesday that HPD and other law enforcement agencies have limited access to information on suspects’ immigration history. The main federal databases available to law enforcement agencies to screen criminals are “inconsistent and incomplete,” and more resources need to be devoted to improve them, the mayor said.

The federal government’s failure to deport illegal immigrants convicted of crimes has become a controversial issue locally and nationally.

Informant warned HPD

A Houston Chronicle investigation last year found ICE failed to detain scores of violent, convicted criminals — some with prior deportation orders — who passed through Harris County’s jails.

In October, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office became the first law enforcement agency in the nation to participate in a pilot program that gives jailers access to a database that has more detailed information on suspects’ immigration status through an automated fingerprint check.

Before Thursday’s raid in the 9300 block of East Avenue O, an informant warned police that the house was used for narcotics activity and was a hangout for a violent gang, according to court documents.

Salter, 54, is in critical condition at Ben Taub General Hospital. However, officials on Tuesday said he moved two of his fingers for doctors, the first time they have asked him to respond.

After Salter was wounded, other officers shot and killed Alfaro, 29. Police seized 3.4 grams of marijuana after the shooting, but did not find any cocaine, Houston Police Chief Harold Hurtt said.          Best  wishes to the downed officer, I hope he recovers, and here is a mugshot of our little "harworking noble......drug dealing peice of crap", that will no longer sell drugs to your kids and mine.....BRAVO HPD.......riff

Another generator "Update"

@ 04:28 AM (8 months, 1 day ago)
Well...I got my 12volt 5watt zener diodes in the mail, and started playing with the circuit. (To update everybody) I have a 24 volt gear motor that puts out 40 rpm. I am spinning the output shaft by hand in order to get voltage out of the wires you normally hook up the current.  To help regulate the voltage (12-50 volts depending on how hard you crank it), I decided to use zener diodes......My goal is to have a durable hand cranked generator to re charge batteries out in the feild if im deployed in an area that has no utilities working or available.  This would allow me to keep any radios, or lights going, in order to get the job done so to speak. (I,m a 1st Lt in the Texas Medical Rangers, we respond to help out in disaster situations, in a medical capacity) OK back to my boring story....lol...What I did was to follow this circuit...the input voltage is the "unstable" voltage, meaning me cranking on the motor lol...and the result is 12 volts out...so far..I used a nice ceramic resistor from some ols 1960 style equipment in the appropriate range that could handle the watts...the first time was with some 1/4 watt radio shack stuff that got real fricken hot under a small load..(a 12 volt light).....next step is to find a battery charger at wal-mart or somewhere that can be hooked up to a cigarrette lighter and rewire it a bit to hook it up to my generator...and test test test...results to follow ....hope it doesn't involve a mushroom cloud and the fire department...ha ha a diagram is below....riff
