Perry Catches flak for NOT accepting the pork roll

Before the story  a few facts about Texas economy......

State Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

Texas’s real GDP grew an impressive 24 percent over the business cycle to

$903 billion (in 2000 dollars), maintaining Texas’s claim to the third-largest

state economy after California and New York. Over the same time period, the

nation’s GDP grew by only 18 percent. During this cycle, Texas surpassed all

but one of its peer states in GDP growth rate (Florida). Compared to the rest of the country.......not too shabby

 

Newser) – The governor of Texas has rejected $556 million in federal stimulus money for the state's unemployed, saying yesterday it had too many strings attached, reports the Dallas Morning News. Rick Perry, a Republican, said that the federal rules would burden Texas businesses with new commitments; instead they should be able to use the money to create jobs. While conservative groups applauded the decision, Democrats said the governor was abandoning the state's jobless for political gain.

The federal stimulus money would update unemployment benefits to include more women, older Americans, and students who don't qualify for coverage under current Texas rules. "We can take care of ourselves," Perry told Fox News, adding, "This was pretty simple for us." But Ed Rendell, the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, called Perry's decision "a terrible call. It is based on politics." Adds an analyst: "Texas covers the smallest percentage of unemployed workers of any state," leaving four out of five jobless without benefits.

 

So because Perry, (which I am not fond of because of the trans Texas corridor and toll road crap), refuses the Porkulous money...the demoqueefs are spitting mad......Good....riff

  2. Only a greedy person would accept this in the way it was proposed ! I'm Glad Perry rejected this one part of the Total Package ! It had too many strings attached and now WE wont be in Debt any More than we have to ! This is something the DEMS dont understand .. The Dems MOTTO : " I cant be out of MONEY ! I still have Checks ! hahahaa

  8. That would be the end of the Obama Presidency if he gets reelected. By 2012, the control of the Congress will shift and between 2012 and 2016 things in this country will begin to look great.
